Scones and Scrutiny: Beauty Cruelty

It’s 2017 and beauty products are still tested on poor, helpless animals.

I’m tired of picking up products and not knowing the harm they cause. Ignorance is bliss, sure. It was easy to pick up a Clinique moisturizer when I didn’t know that, in order to get it, the same product caused lesions on some animals. Ignorance was blissful for me, but torturous to the animals. I decided I needed to educate myself, and I decided I needed to educate everyone else, too.

Here are a list of brands that test on animals:

  • Revlon
  • Clinique
  • Maybelline
  • Avon
  • Benefit
  • Covergirl
  • Make Up For Ever
  • L’Oreal
  • OPI
  • Dove
  • Lancome
  • Kiehls
  • Shiseido
  • And more…

Brands that don’t:

  • Tarte
  • Too Faced
  • NYX
  • Physician’s Formula
  • wet n wild
  • Pacifica
  • Urban Decay
  • Aesop
  • Colourpop
  • e.l.f.
  • Kat Von D
  • Lush
  • And more!!

What does animal cruelty really mean? Among many other things, here are some sufferings of lab animals as a result of cosmetic testing:

  • Lesions
  • Rashes
  • Inflammation
  • Bleeding
  • Blindness
  • Ulcers
  • Seizures
  • Paralysis
  • Convulsions
  • Death

Animals are force-fed, killed so that scientists can examine their organs, impregnated, SUBJECTED TO PRACTICAL TORTURE WHILE PREGNANT THEN BOTH THEY AND THEIR PUPS ARE KILLED, FORCED INTO TEST TUBES. Painful chemicals are dropped into the eye of restrained rabbits, and they are not given any pain relief. This behavior is primitive and inexcusable.

Here‘s a great PETA article about products you can use instead of the ones made by brands that test on animals. Cruelty-free brands are often labeled with a bunny, so look for that logo when you’re shopping. If you want to be extra careful, use this link to check if a company is savage and ruthless or respectful! There’s obviously another way to make sure that products are safe without using animals because so many brands are cruelty-free. Brands that test on animals value money more than lives.

I want to leave you with this: Beauty brands will not stop harming if we don’t stop buying.
